Manchester Fire Station #4

Hackett Hill Road, Manchester, New Hampshire

Introduction

Bedford Design provided services to the City of Manchester in the development of a new fire station for the Northwest section of the city on Hackett Hill Road to be known as Fire Station #4.  We created conceptual designs for the site, surveyed the site, and final site plans were designed. This design sequence created a much larger station with space for more equipment and future growth potential.  The site is unique in that it has gated direct access to Interstate 293 for quicker response time to highway incidents. We also provided construction services including specification approval and site inspections.

Challenges

The new Fire Station required a traffic signal in an area with poor sight distance. The direct highway access required approval from and coordination with the New Hampshire Bureau of Turnpikes.

Solutions

Bedford Design worked with a traffic engineer to best locate the traffic signal. Trees were removed on the property to improve sight distance.
